Contortion was a mask I wore

That tells me how to feel

Mixed with condemnation

Of how I should be

It’s okay

To leave me behind

I told myself once

As a child

I would be forgotten

A memorable future

Written in kaleidoscope glass

Will you stand where I could be?

This is her memory

Scratched on the roof of her mouth

Thought but not spoken

Spelled within her

Tongue writing the pain

Never said aloud

I didn’t forget you

When you left

I just became your ghost

And stayed
